Doc Talk Feature

Dr. Copely, Director of Breast Imaging at Premier Radiology and Borgess Breast Center, was recently featured on News Channel 3's "Doc Talk" to discuss how annual mammograms helped detect breast cancer. Premier Radiology at Borgess, home of the areas only full-time breast imaging team, performs and interprets Mammography scans. Mammography plays a central part in early detection of breast cancers because it can show changes in the breast up to two years before a patient or physician can feel them.

Karen Spaude, a Premier Radiology patient had been clear of breast cancer for 14 years when she went in for her annual mammogram and her screening showed a small suspicious spot. "The smaller the spot, the easier it is to treat", says Dr. Copely. Karen knew she was in good hands since Borgess Breast Center was recently certified as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.

Dr. Wilkin, the former Director of Interventional Radiology at Premier Radiology, was featured on News Channel 3's Doc Talk in 2009 to discuss how Interventional Radiology helped saved one of his patients. Interventional Radiology provides therapeutic and diagnostic treatments utilizing state-of-the-art, minimally invasive techniques along with image guidance.

In 2009, a patient was in a car accident that left her with a broken leg, a badly fractured pelvis, and internal bleeding. Before they could do anything else, they needed to stop the internal bleeding. Dr. Wilkin preformed a procedure called arteriography with embolization in order to localize and stop the bleeding.
